Gardai discovered multiple offences and seized a van after its unpaid tax sparked a roadside stop in Laois.
Laois Roads Policing Unit’s ANPR(Automatic Number Plate Recognition) system alerted gardai to the fact that the van’s tax was almost a year out of date.
When they pulled the vehicle over, Gardai discovered a number of other issues.
“Laois Roads Policing Unit on patrol today in Portlaoise stopped this vehicle after an ANPR alert for tax which expired 334 days ago,” gardai said.
“There was a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle when stopped and a search was conducted during which Cannabis was discovered,” said Gardai.
“The driver also failed a roadside Drug Test for Cannabis and Cocaine and was arrested and has been charged to appear before Portlaoise District Court. Their vehicle was seized,” Gardai stated.
