A woman who stole clothes from Penneys in Portlaoise has avoided conviction.

Saina Sava, 19, with an address at 22 Millbrook, Portlaoise admitted stealing clothes valued at €67 from Penneys on January 13 last.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said all of the items were recovered.

Solicitor Philip Meagher said his client had been having difficulty with her social welfare application and was in financial difficulty as a result.

“The items she took were items she was intending to wear herself,” he explained.

“She has learned a salutary lesson from this,” he said.

On hearing the evidence, Judge Andrew Cody applied the probation act.
