Portlaoise District Court
A man has admitted having cannabis for sale or supply in Laois.
Niall Green, 29, of 27 Ossory Court, Borris-in-Ossory, Laois had cannabis at his address on March 11 last year.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said €700 of cannabis was found when Gardai searched the address. He said the defendant admitted to having the drugs for sale or supply.
He said the man had 13 previous convictions including one under the misuse of drugs.
Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client developed a dependency on cannabis from a young age.
Mr Fitzgerald said the dependency became so big that he began supplying friends to support his own consumption. He was of the belief that his client made no profit from the dealing.
“My client suffers from anxiety and depression,” he said.
“He says he needs assistance in relation to cannabis,” said Mr Fitzgerald.
Judge Andrew Cody imposed a three month sentence which he suspended for two years. He ordered the destruction of the drugs.
