The Folly Festival was granted a drinks licence at Portlaoise District Court.

The music and comedy festival takes place in Cullohill village on the weekend of July 7 and 8.

John Scanlan told the court there had been no incidents at the event in previous years.

“We were absent for two years but we started in 2019,” he said.

He explained that the event was run on a voluntary basis and attracts around 1,200 attendees.

In relation to alcohol, Mr Scanlan said the attendees were given wrist bands which are colour coded depending on their age. Only someone with an  over-age wristband can purchase alcohol.

He said the event attracts three generations from children to parents and grandparents.

Judge Andrew Cody wished Mr Scanlan well as he granted the licence for the event.
