A man admitted having cannabis and Xanax tablets for personal use.
John McCormack, 48, with an address at 15 Sli na Mona, Portarlington admitted having cannabis at Monasterevin Train Station on February 6 last. He also admitted having Xanax and cannabis at Apartment 3, Barrow Mews, Portarlington on March 19, 2021.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant has 73 previous convictions but just one under the misuse of drugs act. He said the vast majority were under the theft act. He said the cannabis was valued at €45 and €20 and the tablets were valued at €10.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was entering a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity.
“He would rely on cannabis from time to time,” she said.
Judge Andrew Cody gave the man a three month sentence which he suspended for two years. He fined the man a total of €700 and granted legal aid.
