Gardai in Laois continued their crackdown on speeding in response to local concerns.
They mounted speed checks on the Emo Road in Mountmellick and issued fines and penalty points to a number of motorists on Friday.
“Laois Roads Policing Unit conducted speed enforcement on the Emo road in Mountmellick today following local concerns,” Gardai said.
“A number of fixed charge notices consisting of a €160 fine and three penalty points were issued to the drivers for speeding in this 80kph zone,” they added.
In one case they detected a motorist travelling 30kph over the 80kph speed limit.
