A  woman who was caught trying to bring drugs into the Midlands Prison has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Nicole Doonan, 27, with an address at 62 Manorlands, Trim, Co Meath was stopped going into the Midlands Prison on December 10, 2022. She was charged with possession of 100 Zimovane tablets.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the accused was found with 100 white tablets in a kinder egg during a pat down search at the prison.

Solicitor Aonghus McCarthy said his client was serving a four year sentence for her part in a robbery.

“She is not a person who would have had an offending history,” he said.

He claimed she had gotten involved with a man from Dublin and he was the person she had been visiting in prison.

“She wishes to simply apologise to the court,” said Mr McCarthy.

Judge Andrew Cody sentenced the woman to two months in prison which he suspended for five years. He also ordered the destruction of the drugs.
