A man is alleged to have broken a shopkeeper’s nose following a dispute in Portlaoise.

Robert Camara, 37, with an address at 13 Cill an Óir, Graiguecullen, Laois is accused of assault causing harm at One Hour Phone, Lyster Square, Portlaoise on December 10, 2021.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby described the alleged assault as being “on the serious side”.  He said the incident occurred at 1.40pm when the defendant entered the shop and was told he couldn’t collect a phone without a ticket.

Sgt Kirby said it would be alleged the defendant “threw a number of punches” striking the shopkeeper in the face.  He said the shopkeeper suffered a broken nose.

Judge Andrew Cody accepted jurisdiction and remanded the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on October 19.
