A woman appeared in court accused of trying to bring €2,240 worth of heroin into Portlaoise Prison.

Patricia Doyle, 34, with an address at 160 Clonmacnoise Road, Crumlin, Dublin 12 is charged with attempting to convey drugs into the prison and possession of heroin at Portlaoise Prison on August 26 last.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said he would need directions from the DPP in relation to the matter.

“It is allegedly a large sum, over €2,000 worth of heroin,” he told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

Judge Andrew Cody agreed that it was a serious matter.

“We will wait for DPPs directions,” said Judge Cody.

Suzanne Dooner BL furnished a statement of means and applied for legal aid.

Judge Cody granted legal aid and adjourned the matter back to February 12 for DPP directions.
