A man appeared in court accused of assaulting a boy in Portlaoise.

Stanislav Moravcik, 44, of 12 Walnut Close, Portlaoise is accused of assault causing harm at Foxburrow, Portlaoise on August 25, 2023.

The man appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court without any legal representation.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said it was an alleged assault on an 11-year-old boy.

Judge Andrew Cody advised the man to get legal representation.

“If this is an assault on an 11-year-old boy you need representation,” he said.

Sgt Kirby showed Judge Cody an image of the injuries allegedly suffered in the incident. The picture showed an injury to the palm of a hand.

“Allegedly pulled him from his bike,  I think,” Sgt Kirby told Judge Cody.

On seeing the image, Judge Cody accepted jurisdiction in the case.

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald was assigned to the case which was adjourned to February 12.
