A man is appearing before Portlaoise District Court this morning in connection with an alleged "attempted abduction" of a woman.
The incident involved a woman out exercising on a rural road in Eyne, Portlaoise, on Friday, April 26.
Laois Gardaí carried out door to door enquiries following the report, and last Saturday evening, May 11, they charged and arrested a man.
The case will be heard in court on Monday, May 13.
"Gardaí received a report of an alleged incident that is reported to have occurred on Friday evening, 26th April 2024 in Mountmellick, Co. Laois.
"A male in his 40s has since been arrested in relation to this incident. He was charged contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997 and is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court this morning, Monday 13th May 2024.
A second incident involving a woman out walking in the nearby Killeen area was also reported to Gardaí on Saturday evening, May 11. An Garda Síochána confirmed to the Leinster Express/Laois Live that this incident is also under investigation.
