65% of fines paid by motorists, new figures reveal

Almost 2,000 drivers issued with speeding fines in Laois/Offaly Garda Division so far this year

  Last year there were 6,237 fines issued for speeding in the Laois/Offaly Garda Division .

Almost 2,000 motorists have been issued with speeding fines in the Laois/Offaly Garda Division so far this year, according to new figures from  An Garda Síochána.


Up to May 12 a total of 1,824 fixed charge notices for speeding have been issued by gardaí in the division with 65% of these fines being paid. 
 
Last year there were 6,237 fines issued for speeding in the Laois/Offaly Garda Division which is down from 6,544 in 2022. 
Over the last five years there have been 35,369 fines for speeding issued in the Division with 29,931 of these being paid, a payment rate of 85%. 


The figures were released following a parliamentary question by Green Party TD Patrick Costello.
