Laois Garda have arrested a man and seized a gun and drugs worth an estimated €285,000.
Gardaí seized various controlled drugs along with the firearm during a search operation in Portlaoise at the weekend.
“Shortly before 3pm on Sunday afternoon, Gardaí attached to the Laois Drugs Unit conducted a search of a property in Portlaoise as part of Operation Tara.
During the course of the search operation, large quantities of suspected cannabis herb, cocaine and MDMA were seized as well as a small quantity of suspected cannabis resin. The total value of drugs seized is €285,000. They are currently subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland (FSI),” gardaí said in a statement.
One man, who is aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a Garda station in the Eastern Region.
“A sawn-off shotgun and ammunition was also seized by gardaí during the search of the residence. They are currently subject to forensic examination by the Garda Ballistics Unit,” gardaí said.
