Laois Offaly Crime Prevention Officer Graham Kavangh issued some advice for people looking to secure event tickets.
“Our Crime Prevention Officer, Sgt Graham Kavanagh, was lucky enough to secure tickets to Coldplay this week! But like most people, he was careful where he bought them," Laois Offaly Gardaí said on social media.
Sgt Kavanagh wants to remind everyone that while we'd love to "Fix You," if you fall foul to ticket fraud, it can be tough to recover.
His advice? Only buy tickets through reputable sources and platforms, especially for sold-out events.
“"Many scammers use social engineering to create fake profiles when selling tickets and always ask for prices that are either too high or suspiciously low. If it seems too good to be true, it is too good to be true," said Sgt Kavanagh.
"Never buy from unverified online platforms. If you must purchase, use your credit card instead of your debit card for better protection. And please, report any scams. The quicker you go to the Gardai with screenshots and all the information, the better."
"Many people feel embarrassed or think the Gardai can’t help, but you'd be surprised at what we can do if we know about the scam early and have all the information to hand," Sgt Kavanagh said.
Stay safe and enjoy the music, but be smart about where you buy your tickets,” he added.
