Man convicted of stealing over €1,600 from Jack and Jill charity shop in Laois

A man was convicted of stealing over €1,600 in cash from a Jack and Jill charity shop in Laois.  

Mateusz Werbanowski (31) of Balladine Road, Abbeyleix admitted stealing €1,625 in cash from Jack and Jill Charity Shop at Kea Lew Business and Retail Park in Portlaoise on October 6, 2023 during a court sitting last March. He also admitted having methamphetamine for personal use on the offence date.  

At the previous hearing, Judge Nicola Andrews said she would consider striking out the charges if all of the money was repaid to the charity by September 2, 2024.

On hearing the money hadn’t been repaid, Judge Andrews convicted the man of theft and drug possession and fined him €1,500.
