The Criminal Assets Bureau(CAB) has taken possession of a house in Portlaoise. 

It follows an investigation into Mary Cash of 7 Harpurs Lane, Portlaoise. 

CAB said that arising from that investigation, an application was made to the High Court, under the Proceeds of Crime Acts, 1996 targeting various assets in the possession and control of Mary Cash. 

“In the context of those proceedings, the Bureau provided evidence that Mary Cash funded the purchase of the subject assets through the proceeds of Money Laundering and Burglaries,” CAB stated in an online post. 

They said these proceedings culminated in orders being granted on December 14,  2021 pursuant to Section 2 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 1996 to 2016 on the following assets:

  •             7 Harpurs Lane, Portlaoise, Co. Laois
  •             171 D Volkswagen Golf 
  •             Gold Cartier watch
  •             Gold Chanel Watch
  •             Chanel Handbags x 4
  •             Chanel wallet
  •             14 Carat Gold Bracelet
  •             14 Carat Gold Necklace
  •             14 Carat White Gold Bracelet 
  •             Stg£21850 cash
  •             €9700
  •             4673 Qatari Riyal

“On the 19th July 2023, the High Court granted an order pursuant to Section 3(1) of the Proceeds of Crime Act, 1996 as amended, over assets determined to have derived from the proceeds of Mary Cash criminal conduct.  

On the 17th April 2024, the High Court granted an order pursuant to Section 3(1) of the Proceeds of Crime Act, 1996 as amended appointed Receiver, Bureau Legal Officer, Kevin McMeel over the property at 7 Harpurs Lane, Portlaoise, Co. Laois with power to possession and sell the said property by private treaty or public auction and lodge the proceeds of sale into a bank with effect from 10am on the 2nd of September 2024.  This order has now been executed by the Receiver,” CAB stated.  

They said the receivership order of  April 17, 2024 remains the subject of an appeal.
