Man to face trial in relation to assault on two men in Laois

The alleged assault occurred in Portlaoise in 2018

Court Services in Laois asked to back plan to move parking from Courthouse at Portlaoise Main Street

A man appeared in court accused of assaulting two men and possessing a plank in Portlaoise in 2018.  

Joe Nevin (24) of 122 Hillview Drive, Portlaoise is accused of assault causing harm to two men at Harpurs Lane, Portlaoise on June 10, 2018. He is also accused of possessing a large plank of wood at Harpurs Lane, Portlaoise on June 10, 2018. 

Garda Aoibheann Moran gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the accused at the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.  

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed that the defendant be sent forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court sitting on October 29. 

He said the book of evidence contained two counts of assault causing harm and two counts of possession of an article under the firearms and offensive weapons act.

Judge Nicola Andrews gave the man the alibi warning before sending the case forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court sitting in Portlaoise on October 29. 

She granted legal aid to solicitor Philip Meagher to include one counsel.
