Man appeared at Portlaoise District Court
A traffic warden was convicted of driving without insurance in Laois.
Bhupinder Singh (45) of Sarsfield Street, Mountmellick was stopped for driving without insurance at Cappakeel, Portlaoise on April 10, 2024.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said the man had been previously insured but his wife had changed insurance and forgot to put his name on the policy.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant had no previous convictions and works in a private car park.
“Ironically, he is a traffic warden for them there,” Sgt Kirby revealed.
“Is this the same man who assaulted a female member of An Garda Siochana?” asked Judge Cody.
He said he remembered the defendant and it was “not his first rodeo” in Portlaoise District Court.
Sgt Kirby said the previous case may have been dealt with by way of the Probation Act.
Ms Fitzpatrick said her client thought he was insured on the date.
Judge Cody convicted the man and fined him €500 but did not impose a disqualification. He fixed recognisance in case of appeal.
