Woman pays out for money laundering in Laois

An Post, Lyster Square

A woman who admitted money laundering has paid €2,500 into the court poor box.

Ketsia Beya (21) of 17 Colliers Wood, Colliers Lane, Portlaoise admitted money laundering the sum of €2,100 at An Post, Lyster Square, Portlaoise on February 3, 2023.

Solicitor Philip Meagher said an early guilty plea was entered in the case and a judge had indicated that the matter would be struck out if €2,500 was paid to the court poor box.

He said his client now had the final €600 to hand over to the court.

“I hope that Ms Beya has learned her lesson,” said Judge Susan Fay.

Mr Meagher told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court that she had. He asked about a laptop and mobile phone which had been seized during the investigation. “It is interfering with her studies,” he explained.

Judge Fay said that was a matter for the woman to resolve with the gardaí as she struck out the charge.
