Ballyfin Demesne received the highest honour
An American man was remanded in custody accused of killing his father at a luxury hotel in Laois last week.
Henry McGowan (30) of 114 Clinton Street, Brooklyn, New York appeared before Portlaoise via videolink today(Monday, November 18).
He is charged with the murder of John McGowan at The Lodge, Ballyfin Demesne, Ballyfin on November 12, 2024
Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said the accused was being held in a secure part of Cloverhill Prison.
The defendant, who was wearing a grey sweatshirt, confirmed that he could hear and see court on the video link.
“There is consent for a further remand in custody for service of the book of evidence,” said Mr Fitzgerald, who noted the book was unlikely to be ready by the next remand date in a fortnight.
Detective Garda Gerard Galwey asked that the defendant be produced on the next date as he wished to amend the charge sheet.
Judge Susan Fay agreed to the remand and to have the defendant produced at the next date on December 2. The defendant replied 'thank you' when the brief hearing ended.
