One of the drivers was travelling 137km/hr in the 80km/hr zone

Laois Gardaí have made an appeal for drivers to slow down after they clocked three motorists travelling significantly over the speed limit on the Laois-Offaly border. 


One of the drivers was travelling 137km/hr in the 80km/hr zone on the R420 between Portarlington and Geashill. Another was travelling 114km/hr and a third was travelling 113km/hr.


Taking to social media Laois Offaly gardaí said: "Starting 2025 strong with pole position on the 'Lose Your Licence Grand Prix' leader board – powered by speed and poor decisions!


"Among those detected speeding this afternoon by Offaly Roads Policing Unit along the R420 between Geashill, Co. Offaly and Portarlington, Co. Laois were these three - all going well above the 80km/h limit.


"All three were clocked within 20mins of another and will receive both a fine and points in the post."
