Kildare cocaine dealer jailed at Portlaoise court

Portlaoise District Court

A woman admitted having cocaine, cannabis and cash at her address in Laois.

Samantha Fitzpatrick (32) of 48 Kilnacourt Woods, Portarlington admitted having cannabis and cocaine for sale or supply at her address on November 7, 2023.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the drugs were discovered by  gardai during a search of the property. He said cannabis valued at €168 and €39 was found along with cocaine valued at €534 and €1,420 in cash. He said the woman had no previous convictions whatsoever and the cash was seized.

“The State believes it is the proceeds of drug dealing,” said Sgt Kirby.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said there was no objection to the money being handed over and she said it was not an “inconsiderable sum” of cash.

Ms Fitzpatrick said her client had been keeping bad company at the time of the offending but has since removed herself.

Judge Susan Fay said they were serious offences. She ordered that the €1,420 be donated to Merchants Quay Ireland and requested a probation report for the defendant.

The case was adjourned back to Portlaoise District Court to a date in June.
