Charges withdrawn over alleged Portlaoise pub assaults

Charges were withdrawn against two men who had been accused of assaulting each other in a Portlaoise pub.

Finbar O’Rourke (50) of 99 Laurel Drive, Esker Hills, Portlaoise and Shane O’Connor (24) of 1 Wilton House, Partarlington were each accused of one count of assault causing harm at EJ Morrissey’s pub in Market Square, Portlaoise on June 18, 2023. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby told a sitting of Portlaoise District Court that he had an application to make in relation to the case. 

“On the directions of the Inspector they are both to be withdrawn,” he said.
