Accused of possessing a hatchet and assault causing harm in Laois

Man appeared at Portlaoise District Court

A book of evidence was served on a man who is accused of having a hatchet and assault in Laois. 

Scott Finnerty (20) with an address at Horan House, Patrick Street, Mountmellick appeared in court accused of possession of a hatchet and assault causing harm at Church Street, Mountmellick on August 18, 2022. 

Garda Lisa Murray gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the defendant at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed that the accused be sent forward for trial to the current sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court. He said the defendant was accused of possession of an article and a second count of assault causing harm.

Judge John Brennan issued the standard alibi warning and granted an application for legal aid for a solicitor and one counsel. 

He remanded the defendant on bail to appear before the current sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court for mention.
