A man appeared in court accused of assaulting a woman causing harm.

The man (38), who can’t be named for legal reasons, appeared before Portlaoise District Court via video link.

He is accused of assault causing harm at his address in Laois on a date between November 1 and November 2, 2024 and again on January 9, 2025.

Solicitor Philip Meagher said the case was listed for directions from the DPP.

However, Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby asked for a further two weeks for directions.

He said it was “a very recent prosecution” and had first been before the court on January 10.

Judge John Brennan adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on March 10 for DPP directions.
