Man accused of having over €5,000 in cocaine in Laois

A man appeared in court accused of having cocaine for sale or supply in Portarlington. 

Brian McCann (41) of 192 The Glen, Kilnacourt, Portarlington is accused of having cocaine for sale or supply at Aldi, Main Street, Portarlington on August 3, 2024. 

Solicitor Philip Meagher questioned the delay in the case at the sitting of Portlaoise District Court. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby requested additional time for the investigation as gardaí were waiting on a certificate of analysis. He said it was an “allegation of €5,200 worth of drugs” and he requested a further two months. 

Mr Meagher asked that the matter be marked peremptory against the state. 

Judge Susan Fay agreed to mark it peremptory and she adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on May 26.
