A man appeared before Portlaoise District Court accused of laundering almost €30,000.

Ibrahim Arnous (22) of 47 Cullenbeg Park, Mountmellick is accused of money laundering the sum of €29,958 at a location in the State between June 21 and June 23 of 2023.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said “I have DPP directions. They are for trial on indictment, one count of money laundering.”

Judge Andrew Cody asked the man if he was working. The man said he wasn’t. Judge Cody told him it was “being sent forward to a higher court because it is so serious”.

“I don’t know where this money came from,” the man said.

Judge Cody adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on July 21 for service of a book of evidence.
