A Laois judge declined to issue a bench warrant over a packet of Pringles.

Judge Andrew Cody was speaking during the case of a 15-year-old boy with a Laois address who was accused of stealing Pringles valued at €3.50 from Lidl in Portlaoise.

The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, failed to appear before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

Judge Cody said “I am not going to start issuing bench warrants for a packet of Pringles valued at  €3.50.”

He questioned how much the matter had cost already.

Judge Cody adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on July 24 and said gardai were to notify the accused and his mother about the case.
