Accused of threatening a prison officer in Portlaoise

The incident is alleged to have occurred at the Midlands Prison

A book of evidence was served on a man who is accused of threatening a prison officer in Portlaoise. 

Eoin Berkeley (32) of Hampton Wood Way, Finglas, Dublin 11 is accused of threatening to kill or cause serious harm to a prison officer at the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise on February 9, 2024. 

Garda Lisa Murray gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the accused at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court

Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes said the DPP had directed that the defendant be sent forward for trial to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court which begin on October 28. 

Judge Deirdre Gearty issued the standard alibi warning and sent him forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court. She granted legal aid for counsel in the case.
