Pair appear in court in Laois on firearm charges

Portlaoise District Court

Two men have appeared before Portlaoise District Court on firearms charges.

John Pio Ward (41) of Bay 6, Kilcruttin Halting Site, Tullamore, Co Offaly and Patrick Ward (37) of 7 Kilcruttin, Tullamore, are each charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and violent disorder at Kilcruttin Halting Site on March 21, 2025.

Hugo Mills BL, representing the first accused, asked that the case be adjourned to a sitting of Tullamore District Court on September 3. He said he had been instructed that a book of evidence would be ready on that date.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the book would be ready.

Mr Mills asked that his client be produced on that date.

David Nugent BL, acting for the second accused, also asked that his client be produced at Tullamore District Court on September 3 for service of the book of evidence.

Judge Michael Ramsey remanded both men in custody and adjourned the case back to Tullamore District Court on September 3 for service of the books of evidence.
