An alleged exchange of cash at a filling station resulted in a man appearing before Portlaoise District Court.

Pardelian Rostas (22) of 41 Orchard Court, Blackpool, Co Cork, is accused of making gain by deception at Clara Filling Station in Co Offaly on August 26, 2022.

The defendant is accused of asking for four €50 notes to be changed into €20s and then requesting that two €50s be changed back. It’s alleged that during the exchange he kept five of the ten €20 notes.

Judge Michael Ramsey noted a hearing date of September 15 had been set aside to hear the case.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant had refused to sign his bail bond.

David Nugent BL asked his client why he had refused to sign the bail bond.

“I never committed this crime,” the man replied.

Mr Nugent asked for the case to be adjourned for a week.

Judge Ramsey agreed to adjourn the case and ordered that the defendant be produced at Portlaoise District Court on August 14.
