Laois Roads Policing Unit seized a car which had set off an alert on the garda ANPR system.

The Automatic Number Plate Recognition(ANPR) system in garda cars scans number plates and instantly notifies gardaí about the insurance, tax and NCT status.

'"Computer Says No!" ANPR foils Disqualified Driver in Laois,' Gardaí posted on social media after stopping a grey Volkswagen Passat.

“While out on mobile patrol, Laois Roads Policing Unit received a real-time alert from our on board ANPR system. A quick scan of the reg, and up popped a hit for no insurance or tax,” gardai said.

“We stopped the vehicle shortly after and discovered the driver was also disqualified from driving,” gardaí stated.

They said the car was seized and the driver will be prosecuted through the district court.
