Ban for road “menace” who was speeding in Laois

The case was heard at Portlaoise District Court

A judge branded a man “a menace on the road” as he banned him from driving for five years. 

Guo Qing Wu (47) of Cunningham Drive, Dalkey, Dublin, was accused of speeding and not having insurance on the M7 at Ballacolla on February 2, 2025. 

Garda Stephen O’Hanlan said he detected the 7 series BMW doing 150kph and stopped the driver. He made a demand for insurance and the driver said he would produce the documents at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station but he never did. He said the man had nine previous convictions and all related to road traffic offences

After examining the defendant’s previous convictions, Judge Andrew Cody said, “this man is a menace on the roads.” He fined the man a total of €1,750 and banned him from driving for five years.
