Portlaoise District Court

A book of evidence was served on a man who is accused of indecent assault.

The man (54), who has a Laois address but cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of four counts of indecent assault of a female at a location in Laois on dates between October 1, 1985 and June 30, 1991.

Garda Lisa Murray said she had served the book of evidence on the accused at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the book contained four counts and the DPP had directed that the case be sent forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court.

Judge Andrew Cody gave the standard alibi warning and sent the case forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court beginning on October 28.

A solicitor for the accused asked for legal aid for two counsel in the case and reporting restrictions.

Judge Cody granted legal aid and said reporting restrictions apply in the case. He remanded the defendant on bail with conditions as set out in the district court.
