A man was unable to attend court over charges arising from Electric Picnic as he was stuck in mud at another festival.

Gareth McGrath (52) of St Declans, Church Avenue, Portmarnock, Dublin, is accused of being intoxicated and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour at Electric Picnic in Stradbally on September 2, 2025.

Judge Susan Fay asked why he was not present at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

The court clerk said “we did receive an email to say that he is stuck in a field at a festival.”

When asked for more detail, the clerk said, the man indicated that he was at a music festival in Dundalk and “my car is stuck in the mud.”

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said he wouldn’t object to a remand in relation to the case.

Judge Fay remanded the defendant on bail to appear before Portlaoise District Court on October 20.
