Man accused of burglary in Portlaoise

A book of evidence was served in relation to a burglary in Laois. 

Jack Rouget (23) of 16 Bianconi Way, Portlaoise,  is accused of burglary of a property at Market Mews, Maryborough Village, Portlaoise on March 22 last. 

He appeared before Portlaoise District Court via video link and agreed to allow the book of evidence to be served to his solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick.

Garda Lisa Murray gave evidence of serving the book of evidence at the courthouse in Portlaoise. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed that the case should be sent forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court. 

Judge Susan Fay noted that the DPP had consented to the case being sent forward and she issued the standard alibi warning. 

She granted legal aid for Ms Fitzpatrick and one counsel and sent the case forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court beginning on October 28.  The defendant was remanded in custody.
