An old age pensioner has been accused of stealing lights from graves in Laois.

Kathleen O’Shea (78) of 6 Doonane Road, Crettyard, allegedly stole two grave lights in Oakvale, Stradbally, on two occasions between August 1 and December 16, 2024.

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald described the incident as unusual as he requested disclosure in the case.

“There would be an application for legal aid given she is an old age pensioner,” said Mr Fitzgerald.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby gave a brief outline of the allegation. “It is €60 worth of lights and just to let the court know, the alleged injured party is in court.”

Judge Susan Fay deferred the legal aid application and adjourned the matter to Portlaoise District Court on November 11.
