A three-month sentence was handed down to a man who stole firelogs in Mountrath.
Jake Shore (27) of no fixed abode, admitted stealing firelogs valued at €20 from Applegreen Filling Station in Mountrath on February 17 last. He also admitted being intoxicated and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour at the filling station on the same date.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was in custody in relation to the incident since August 4.
“He has been doing quite well,” she said.
Ms Fitzpatrick said he has been in custody nearly three months for a relatively minor theft and public order offences. She said the probation report indicated the man would benefit from probation supervision.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the firelogs were recovered.
Judge Susan Fay sentenced the man to three months for stealing the firelogs and placed him on 12 months probation supervision to include all of the recommendations set out in the probation report. The intoxication charge was taken into consideration at the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
