A judge said it was “unsatisfactory” that a man hadn’t been contacted by a solicitor while in custody.

Jake Maher (21) of 9 North Frederick Street, Dublin 1, is accused of intimidating a witness at Portlaoise Courthouse on July 20, 2023.

Andrew Dunne BL asked for an adjournment in order to get instructions from the accused.

Judge Susan Fay said “there has been ample time to allow instructions.” She said he had appeared in court previously.

“In two weeks, nobody has contacted him,” she noted.

The man, who was in custody, appeared before Portlaoise District Court via video link.

Judge Fay described the situation as “unsatisfactory” and adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on November 10 by video link.
