Court hears of man in Portlaoise selling fake insurance

A man told gardaí that he had purchased a fake insurance disc from a man in Portlaoise.  

Arkadijs Jermolajevs (46) of 2 Dublin Road, Portlaoise, was convicted of driving without insurance at Fr. Browne Road, Portlaoise on April 29 last.

Detective Garda David Montgomery told a sitting of Portlaoise District Court that the driver was stopped and his insurance disc was “deemed to be fraudulent”. 

When Det Montgomery asked about the disc the man said, “a man from Newpark in Portlaoise helps foreigners get insurance.” 

Judge Andrew Cody fined the man €750 and disqualified him from driving for five years.
