Man allegedly assaulted two men in Portlaoise

The man was ordered to stay away from a fast food restaurant in the town

A man appeared in court accused of assault causing harm to two men in Lyster Square, Portlaoise. 

Adam McDonald (20) of 31 Bianconi Way, Portlaoise is accused of assault causing harm to two men at Lyster Square, Portlaoise on November 8 last. 

Garda Brian Rogers gave evidence of arrest and caution and said the man made no reply. He said gardaí had no objection to bail subject to a number of conditions. He requested a long remand as he said directions were awaited in the case. 

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client was welfare dependent and he requested legal aid in the case. 

Judge Susan Fay granted legal aid and remanded the man on bail subject to a number of conditions including that he remain of sober habits, not commit any crime, have no contact directly or indirectly with the alleged injured parties or prosecution witnesses and that he stay away from Baytoon Grill in Portlaoise. 

The case was then adjourned back to Portlaoise District Court on February 9, 2026.
