A man appeared in court in Laois accused of money laundering.

Afolabi Solanke (55) of 23 Sli na Mona, Edenderry Road, Portarlington, is accused of money laundering €7,500 at a location unknown within the Laois Offaly court district between April 14 and August 7, 2023.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby told a sitting of Portlaoise District Court that the DPP had directed that the case proceed on indictment, meaning it would go to the higher circuit court.

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client was a delivery driver for Supervalu and he requested legal aid in the case.

Judge Susan Fay granted legal aid and remanded the case back to Portlaoise District Court on January 12 for service of the book of evidence.
