Laois court told man damaged garda’s car

Portlaoise District Court

A man who caused criminal damage to the personal car of a garda was ordered to stay away from a police station.

Terry Dunne (38) of 1 Canal House Way, Dublin Street, Monasterevin, Kildare appeared in court accused of criminal damage to a car at Monasterevin Garda Station on March 27, 2023. He was also accused of failing to appear in court on April 20, 2023 and October 16, 2025.

Andrew Dunne BL asked for the court to grant the man bail to appear at a later date.

Judge Andrew Cody said it was remarkable that the man didn’t have a probation report as he had 29 previous convictions. He said there had been five bench warrants in relation to the offence and he said the man had caused €2,500 in damage to a car belonging to a garda.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said he would have concerns about bail conditions. He said the man had allegedly gone around the back of a garda station and damaged a car. He asked that he stay away from Monasterevin Garda Station.

Judge Andrew Cody imposed a six month sentence he suspended for three years on condition that the man stay away from Monasterevin Garda Station. He fixed recognisance in case of appeal.
