Gardaí have reports of several incidents of thefts from vehicles across Laois and Offaly in recent days.
They are urging people to take precautions, not to leave valuables in vehicles and never to leave cars unattended if running while defrosting.
“Gardaí across Laois and Offaly are currently investigating several incidents where property has been taken from vehicles that were left unlocked or where items were visible inside. These incidents highlight how important simple everyday precautions are in reducing opportunities for crime,” Gardaí stated.
They said “this message isn’t about criticism. It’s about reminding all of us — calmly and practically — that small habits make a big difference.”

They offered people a few straightforward steps help protect property:
“Always lock your vehicle, even when parked at home or only stepping away for a moment. Remove valuables such as bags, tools, cash, and electronic items from your car.
During cold weather, please avoid leaving your vehicle running and unattended while defrosting — these situations are regularly targeted by opportunistic thieves.”

“Crime prevention is a shared effort. By taking small, consistent actions together, we reduce risk, disrupt opportunity, and help keep our community safer. If you see anything unusual or concerning, please contact Gardaí immediately,” they stated.
