Gardaí up patrols on Laois train route

Community Policing Gardaí alongside Irish Rail staff were on board the Portarlington to Hueston route.

Gardaí were out in force tacking anti-social behaviour and crime on public transport in Laois last week. As part of Operation Scáthlán Community Policing Gardaí alongside Irish Rail staff were on board the Portarlington to Hueston route throughout the day.

"Operation Scáthlán is a high-visibility crime-prevention initiative designed to promote safety and reassurance across the rail network," said a Garda spokesperson.

"The operation specifically targets: Anti-social behaviour; Public safety risks; Crime in and around rail and bus stations.
"Alongside enforcement, prevention and engagement play a key role — with Gardaí interacting with commuters, supporting rail staff, and helping to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for all rail users."
