Woman accused of stealing alcohol and pregnancy tests in Laois

Portlaoise District Court

A woman appeared in court accused of stealing pregnancy tests and alcohol from shops in Laois. 

Sarah Cloherty (39) of 1 The Maisonettes, Stradbally, is accused of stealing pregnancy tests valued at €43.22 from Laois Pharmacy, Lyster Square Portlaoise on December 31, 2025, a bottle of wine valued at €8 from Dunnes Stores, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise on January 3 and a bottle of wine valued at €10 from Mulhalls Supervalu, Lyster Square Portlaoise on January 4, 2026.

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client was not making an application for bail. He requested disclosure and legal aid in the case. 

Judge Andrew Cody remanded the defendant in custody, granted legal aid, ordered disclosure and adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on January 12 by video link.
