'Ongoing speeding concerns' raised with Laois gardaí during seizure

A van was stopped by Gardaí in Portarlington.

Gardaí in Laois seized a van in Portarlington on Friday, January 16 after they say the driver was detected speeding and was found to have no tax or insurance. 

The incident happened at Garryhinch, Portarlington when  Laois Roads Policing Unit detected a Citroën Berlingo travelling at 77km/h in a 50km/h zone.

"On stopping the vehicle, it was also found to have no tax or insurance and was seized," a garda spokesperson said.

"This isn’t the crime of the century..... but to the people who live in the area, it matters," added Gardaí.

"While Gardaí were dealing with the stop, a local resident approached to say how glad she was to see enforcement in the area, adding that many locals feel the same due to ongoing speeding concerns."Road safety isn’t all about headlines. it’s about listening to communities and acting where it counts."
