Man accused of aggravated burglary in Portlaoise 

Portlaoise District Court

A man appeared in court accused of aggravated burglary and possession of a baton in Portlaoise. 

Eduard Ionut (26) of Orlagh Grange, Knocklyn, Dublin is accused of aggravated burglary and possession of a baton at Ballycarnan Lodge, Portlaoise on November 2, 2025. 

Detective Garda Gerard Galwey told a sitting of Portlaoise District Court that he had further charged the defendant in relation to the investigation and the man made no reply.  He said there was a co-accused in the case. 

Jovita Zakariene (42) of Ballycarnan Lodge, Portlaoise is accused of conspiring to commit burglary and of providing a false statement to Gardai.

Det Galwey said the woman made no reply when she was charged. He requested the same court date for both defendants. 

Judge Stephanie Coggans remanded both defendants on bail to appear again before Portlaoise District Court on March 16 for service of the book of evidence.
