A woman appeared in court accused of burglary in Portlarlington.

Ozlet Muwaniri (38) of 73 Crann Nua, Portarlington, is accused of burglary at two houses in Crann Nua on March 7, 2026. She is further charged with stealing alcohol from Centra, Main Street, Portarlington on February 27 and of being intoxicated and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour at Portarlington Leisure Centre on March 8, 2026.

Garda Claire Hough said she arrested the defendant at Crann Nua at midnight on March 8. She said there were people in the house when the alleged burglary occurred. She said the defendant made no reply after caution and she had no objection to bail.

Judge Susan Fay granted bail subject to a number of strict conditions which included a weekly sign on at a garda station, a curfew, that she is to abstain from alcohol and drugs, be of good behaviour and reside at her address.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was in receipt of social welfare and she requested legal aid in the case.

Judge Fay granted legal aid and adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on May 18 for DPP’s directions.
