Laois gardaí have arrested a 45 year old man for the possession of cocaine during a roadside traffic stop.
Garda Road Policing Unit stopped a vehicle in Ballyclider, Portlaoise on Sunday March 29 at 8pm, the Leinster Express / Laois Live can confirm.
Gardaí allegedly detected a strong smell of cannabis, and performed a roadside breath test on the driver.
The driver allegedly failed the roadside breath test and was positive for cocaine and cannabis. Gardaí arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, and are awaiting the results of further drug tests.
Gardaí allegedly seized an amount of cocaine worth an estimated street value of €8,800.
The driver was arrested and charged for the possession of drugs, and will appear before the courts.
